The Silos

Stormwater Crossing

A reimagined industrial structure and innovative landscape for stormwater management.

The iconic gravel silos on the south bank of Buffalo Bayou near Guadalupe Plaza Park will be transformed into a new pocket park and the adjacent open lot will be redesigned as an active landscape to efficiently process stormwater and filter it as it flows into the waterway. The Silos & Stormwater Crossing will feature:

  • Curated gardens around the silos, incorporating existing structural elements to create a unique site features.
  • Redirected hike and bike trail that weaves in and around the silos and gardens.
  • High-performance landscape with lush rain gardens, bioswales, and constructed wetlands to help direct, filter, and absorb area stormwater heading for the bayou.

Construction on the Silos & Stormwater Crossing is estimated to be completed in late 2026.

By 2032, Buffalo Bayou Partnership and its partners will realize the Buffalo Bayou East 10-Year Plan, bringing parks, trails, bayou-crossing bridges, affordable housing, cultural destinations, and infrastructure improvements to the Greater East End and Fifth Ward.  This visionary plan is made possible by a $100 million catalyst gift from the Kinder Foundation to Buffalo Bayou Partnership, which leveraged significant public support from Harris County and the City of Houston, including Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone funds.
